Know any hot places to do a yachtmaster course

Oh sorry, I thort we were talking about going some where at night, not coming ack from the pub!. I dont do that much night sailing,, except coming back from pub, mainly as I said. If you cant get there in day time, yer probably not getting there anyway!! Cant see it makes much difference at night. The auto pilot and radar work just the same. Mind theres more beer but it does not seem to affect them much. Once followed a yacht into the marina with my search light stuck on. It seemed to [--word removed--] up him but not me. Hope this helps!!

Re: YM, suncoast

um, well it's a good start. Unfortunately your trip thru france might not count towards the 2500 miles cos not at sea. You should add it all up anyway, afaik you have had previous boat so probly fine.

My post above intimates that suncoast won't teach theory, which is not quite right - they can teach the whole rya YM course of which a load is theory. But they don't teach the theory bit on its own, like evening classes or wb-based corresponsdence course, as far as i know.

The wittering about the course being irrelevant is not valid, imho. The theory side forces careful consideration of tidal effects, crossing the meridian and lots more. Secondary port calcs are simple enuf too.

On the practical side you have to be able to handle the boat in a small area in wind on one engine, and a fair bit of practise and training is given to do this.

Re: YM, suncoast

Hi Matt whilst we are licenced to do shore based theory courses clearly we get no demand cos who wants to come out in the sun then stay in a classroom for four days albiet air conned.

Only one we did we last Nov when Phil did me and three locals.
