Hi all,
I need to buy some 10mm cable for my solar installation, but twin core with a sheaf is proving quite difficult to find.

Anyone know of a supplier they have used?

I can but loads of single core, but that means sheathing it in either flex conduit or heat shrink, less than ideal going up the gantry tubework.

Thanks

Biggest I can get, and indeed biggest I know of, in tinned 2 core is 4.0sq.mm with a capacity of 39A

In HO7 rubber sheathed but not tinned, biggest off the shelf from my suppliers is 6.0sq.mm

Must be one hell of a solar installation to need 10sq.mm though! Are you sure you really need to go that big?

Just a thought, when you say 10mm cable did you mean conductor cross sectional area or overall diameter of the cable? 'Cos 4.0sq.mm 2 core round has a sheath diameter of 9.3mm ...

I tried looking at Prysmian (saw them at an exhibition) but their website is inactive at the present,.

Otherwise Alibaba

100metre roll on 7 days delivery. Tinned, 25 years service life. But someone in the UK solar industry must have them in stock..

Yeah but that isn't quite what Jim was asking for, he wants a twin core sheathed cable and the two core version of that is "figure of eight" i.e. two cables bonded together side by side

Oh and I just noticed that the minimum order quantity is 5,000 metres :D (but as you say somebody will probably have it in stock in the UK)

True, but I can't recall anyone specc'ing cable by sheath diameter.
If I remember correctly from earlier threads, the OP is installing an MPPT system with at least some panels in series. If so, he definitely won't be needing cable with a conductor diameter of 10mm (many of us will have that as main battery cables). But until he clarifies...

It was discussed here. Perhaps you could use 4mm² twin for the panels, and 10mm² single core for the combination.

Ta, I missed that thread

Just having a coffee break from finishing off works on a boat that must be done today so haven't time to sit down and think about it, I'll wrap the brain cell around it later!

Jim, which MPPT controller are you using?

This is 10mm 2 - so yes, heavy duty battery cable, to reduce losses to around 1%. The individual panels have Mc4 connectors to 6mm 2 cable going into the junction box. From junction box to controller is 10mm 2.

Controller is Votronic who also recommend 10mmm 2 for the 530w performance potential.

Got it.

It's either that figure 8 stuff on the earlier post or single core 10mm2 in spiralwrap / tubing

AFAIK, there ain't a source of 10mm2 2 core sheathed (and if anyone finds one, I'm all ears!)

PS I need to place an order with Furneaux Riddall over the weekend Jim so if there's anything you want let me know. I don't get a massive discount but usually get a bit off the list price

Time for lateral thinking. As 2-core 10mm2 seems to be fairly difficult to find in small quantities, perhaps you might consider using 4-core 6mm2 rubber sheathed cable. This will give you even less voltage drop, is more flexible, and is relatively cheap - less than £3 a metre at http://www.cse-distributors.co.uk/a...Cable---4-Core-6mm--H07RN_F_4C_6.html#SID=167
