Anybody know of practical, hands-on courses or training available in the Medway area? Would like to be more proficient in these skills - particularly splicing, but don't find it easy working from books or videos.
That's very pretty, though I'n not sure who would use it, apart from lovers. I slightly lost faith in it when it looks as though the rolling-hitch has been set up incorrectly - the picture on the top is correct but the one on the pole shows the crossing turn on top, whereas the knot only works properly if the turn adjacent to the line with the strain is overriding the crossing turn and compressing it against the pole.
Very pretty, and a worthy effort, though pictures don't usually make the point I made, which is probably best done with a hands-on approach, which I think brings us back to Ian_Houston's original post.
Alas, kids long gone, and grandchildren rather scattered around the country. But there is a local Scout Troop, and I will see if they run any courses - thanks.
Yep, I did spend some time with this site - and others. The graphics are good - particularly being able to go through 'step by step.' I think that I would benefit from hands-on experience tho'.
the crazy experience that ,i had with knots was when i did my first sailing course, the guy asked to to do a bowline,it been years since i did any knots,i looked at the rope and kept getting it wrong,so i closed my eyes and i tied every knot that was asked of me,most of the time that i worked as a diver you could not see a thing.
