Kiwi Prop

If you're talking propellers you might be interested to know that down here in Kiwi-land a lot of kiwis have moved away from kiwiprop and are raving about Gori:

http://www.gori-propeller.com/

Not only do they look the sexiest propellor of all time (probably the sexiest piece of kit anywhere on the boat for that matter) more importantly they seem to perform extremely well and have an interesting feature called 'over drive'. This apparently gives it longer legs when motor-sailing when the engine load is lightened by assistance from the sails. And achieves hull speeds in flat water.

But under normal motoring it reverts to normal pitch and maintains bite to drive into a seaway.

I don't yet speak from personal experience as I've only just started researching options for a change from my existing 2 blade folded prop which is pathetic at biting in a seaway or astern.

Currently receiving lots of positive recommendations from people who have switched to Gori but now looking for independent pro advice before making a decision.

Reading these posts makes me so pleased that I fitted a Gori 3 blade to our new boat, Sun Odyssey 42ds, it has worked faultlessly for 11 months, in overdrive it achieves hull speed, 8.5 knt, at 1800 rpm, engine is a Yanmar 54hp. Just had the boat lifted so I cleaned the prop, replaced the anodes and rubber bump stops, re-greased it and returned to the water.

How many miles have you done with the Kiwiprop - motoring and sailing? I suspect that is the most important factor in user satisfaction.

I've had a Kiwi for 6 years. During this time I've logged 4915 miles in 1178 hours, 553 of which were motoring.

The Kiwi has given no trouble at all so far, with no visible wear on the blades where they press against the rollers. I grease it annually and make sure after the anti-fouling is dry that the rollers are completely freed off.

Thanks for that DaveS. Mine was 10000nm in less than a year, about 80% sailing (can't be precise, log is across an ocean from me.) Maybe my problem was that I hadn't reached the time interval specified for greasing but because of my high mileage, the grease had gone.
