Does anyone know of an outfit that would take on a marine ply/epoxy boat build from plans in the UK? From a Google search there seem to be boat builders, but they either only seem to build their own designs (Swallow Boats or Fyne Boat Kits) or are 'traditional' wooden boat builders. I know of someone in France who would do it, but the pound/euro rates are making it a little expensive. The boat I have in mind is the Souriceau (HERE). If anyone else is interested in the design, then get in touch, perhaps we could attempt a parallel build!

You could try Maurice Huffey at Blaxton Boats in Doncaster. He has lots of moulds of old designs (plus all their parts) and usually seems to be up for a challenge like this. He made me a rudder a couple of years ago. Price and quality both good although he did overun on his time estimate.

Your problem technically is building for other people involves the RCD. Tho in the UK you can just say "I dun it myself" and register it as such. Here in France, one might try it for a small boat but tricky if caught (not sure of the risk of that) because of the tax implications.

As often mentioned, self builds are not allowed to be sold within 5 yrs. of first use. Unless with the full RCD compliance. But I don't see much notice being taken of that in the UK, one of the advantages of no compulsory registaration.

The Souriceau looks like a nice little boat, are there any in the UK already? I liked the references to Jester, which used to be kept in Mayflower Plymouth

None in the UK that I'm aware of, the first completed Souriceau was only launched in April 2009. I was planning on going to the Paris boat show in December to have a look, but the architect says that the boat will not be there. A company called L'Otarie currently has links with the architect to take on the build. The thing that I like about the design is a seemingly seaworthy boat, capable of longer passages, but that can be garaged over winter to avoid mooring fees. If anyone else is interested in a factory visit or doing a build then let me know.
