kirby quay - witch's Quay - weird request

I am about to put together a short video about kirby quay

and I was wondering if ransome has a description of it in his book secret water

any takers out there who are prepared to read a bit of ransome down the phone - or even better scan the relevant pages and email it to me

I have contacted all the local suspects and no-one around here appears to have a copy - I know where one is - but its on my mothers bookshelf - 60 odd miles away

Wife'n'I watched the Kirby creek one and thoroughly enjoyed it, the reading of the extract from Secret Water at the end was a nice surprise.

I wondered if the boat on the spit was intentional at the time - and I realise now it was you as you've caught us creeping back into the creek in 47! Nice to see the boat from someone else's view for once!

Kirby creek - where is it ?

Absolutley fab. We've gone aground twice trying to dinghy up there, let alone sail ! Third time lucky this year. Its' such a long walk to the pub from skipper's island anchorage, and if we can get to the quay it will probably mean only 10 mins ?

Watched the "January 2010" one last night, very frightening hearing the ice scraping against the boat at night.

ice - no damage

there was no visible damage to the boat - but I bought the mirror because given the job in hand I have to accept that the boat will get a bad time

after its no classic and its not even a 35 foot lozenge with two bathrooms

I did some research - sea water freezes at -1.8 degrees C which surprised me - but the convection from warmer lower water stops it from freezing. What was happening was that the surface water over the mudflats was freezing during the cold evening - then when the tide came in at about 1am it was picking up the icy mud and concentrating it in the channels.

Although it sounded bad - scraping along the side of the boat - it was mostly on the surface about as dangerous to the hull as being immersed in flowing hush puppy crushed ice

although there were a few larger sheets - but still very thin

And I was perfectly wrm in the sleeping bags - its the damp that it more of a problem than the cold

but it was completely worthwhile doing

the boat is now on slaughden quay at aldeburgh. I need to spend a few days epoxy coating the rudder, attempting to rationalise some of the more eccentric aspects of the wiring system and slap a coat of varnish on her
