Short presentation at RUG 8 last night by project engineers re proposed cycleway alongside/on river at Kingston.
Part of the Mayor of London's Mini Hollands plan:

I suggested money would be better spent if used to provide more resources to deal with river problems such as boats discharging sewage etc !

Any idea what will happen to the residential moorings? Are they in the picture or are the moorings shown for visitors? It worries me that the image shows the cycle path going past the moorings on it's way to Turks so I presume the(often abused)24hr moorings will be disappearing? Kingston doesn't have a very good record of encouraging boats, as anyone who used the crumbling pontoons surrounded by shopping trolleys will remember.

That floating snake of a eyesore is going to be fun when a passenger vessel or speeding boat passes it. And like just like the Cycle Superhighway, it won't be compulsory to use it either, so us pedestrians on the old path will still have to dodge the pedalphiles. I wish the government was a keen to throw our money at our hobby,

It will be interesting to hear the views of the EA on the effect on the navigation channel.
As a frequent user of that reach under oar power, it looks in the artist's impreesion as if there is a severe constriction of the channel towards the upstream end of the proposed floating cycle way.
Being also a cyclist, I cannot see this being of much use, nor can I see there being sufficient justification for the no doubt very expensive cycle bridge alongside the railway bridge.

There's a very pleasant route on t'other side of the river, quiet, no / very little vehicular traffic - what's wrong with that??

Far too simple and it's on the wrong side for Surbiton, but best keep that quite before they squander millions on a cycle bridge over Ravens Ait.
