Daughter has an urgent task to take pics 'on a beach'. We know that there's sand by the Hayward gallery area, and that Putney (both South side btw) is OK.

Trouble is, it's tomorrow. Tide is OK but we have no idea what the 'beaches' are like at Kingston. She's doing a Foundation course there and does not really have time to travel.

So folks, where's the nicest bit on East/West banks (thinking of sunlight)?

Will send the most relevant answer poster a copy of the pics.

Not April 1st....

Anyhow that aside, no beaches as its not tidal.

You can get a mild sand area at Hampton Court in Summer with no stream but not in March.

Sorry but she may need a bit of photoshop....

There is a little sandy beach just downstream of Teddington Lock (Ham side of the river, opposite Strawberry Vale).

Howard (Teddington Lock) may know more.......

Good point

Down the towpath and as soon as you align with Majestic Wines / Radnor Gardens you are at the sand, just above the start of Eel Pie..

What a muppet. Used to live in Wandsworth and cycled/walked to Kingston many times.

A Guinness induced senior moment had me thinking that Kingston was below Richmond.

Good tips. Any more ideas?

Update. Had assumed it was for today. Actually it's Friday.

This beach downstream from Richmond Lock sounds ideal.

So her question is "how can she get to it?"

Do I have to bung her Oppie on to the Land Rover roof and pay the £250 emission charge (thanks Ken and Boris) or is there a towpath?

Your collective help is much appreciated.

Downstream of Teddington Lock , not Richmond.

The beach that Rich is talking about ( if i am thinking the same one ) is just past the Thames Young Mariners base , but isn't sand , it's silt. You will sink in it.

Just downstream of Tedders is a nice shingle beach with overhanging willows , very picturesque.

Park on Dukes Avenue / Riverside Drive and walk down the towpath past the lock.

More than that!

I sent her a link to Tide tables, and wrote some basic instructions on using them.

If she gets her feet wet it'll be my fault as usual.

She will miss the shot!

Whilst it is very safe down there, I would not recommend a stroll down there by ones self in the dark or dusk as there have been problems over the years. (and not just on women...)

I hope she gets the shot.

On friday , the tide at Tedders will start making at approx 1030 , peaking at 1240 and it will be back down again at about 1500.

It will then stay low until approx 2300 .

To tell the

Actually, when I zoom in, I think that I can see you, holding binoculars. Have you been CRB checked?

absolute truth, we all have window seats in marine (9th floor) and four pairs of binos between us!

Its amazing what you see on a daily basis from our window including non stop pix like the one you have posted on the wobbly bridge.

However the Tate Modern extension takes priority, this publicly funded building has been a year in the making and they have just made the old gas tanks suitable for building. In the meantime the privately funded flats to the left have built 3 separate, buildings the tallest at 23 stories in the same time..

These will be four pairs left over from some 'Giant test' then. Is David Glenn on your floor? I know him of old, and he has some fine looking kids too.

Anyway, she's just returned from some St Patricks' Day stuff, and tells me that they're going to do the shoot between Waterloo and Millenium bridges. Tomorrow or Monday. And I thought deadlines were deadlines. Seems I know nothing.

So dust off the binos. If you spot them and get a pic up I'll buy you a real Guinness! A clue. They're students. Late morning.
