Are forumites aware that a floating visiting pontoon is in the pipeline for Kings Lynn?

When I visited (by road) last year the Tourist Information told me there were plans and I was told yesterday that now apparently the necessary permissions have been granted.

I have been told that it is the approx 100ft pontoon that is brought out from time to time to accommodate visiting tall ships - it will just be left out. So, presumably it will be out of action a few weeks a year when a ship visits. I have also been told by TI that it will be managed by the Green Quay visitors centre.

No firm date for opening, but they say they are aiming for July.

I hope all this is true & comes to fruition - it's high time that this historically important port was easier to visit!

There are plans to build a lock to enter the relief channel at Lynn, with a freshwater marina.
I hope they get the money as it would improve things no-end, perhaps the pontoon idea is so the need can be proven?.

There is also a new one being built at Sutton Bridge

Well, I hope the marina goes ahead and I have been following this a bit. However, as it was put to me (albeit by Tourist Information and not by the Council or anyone else), the pontoons were because the marina plan had at the very least been kicked into the long grass by local opposition and the economic downturn.

The Sutton Bridge one sounds more optimistic, though
