Kindle book FREE today

Each book in Gutenberg has a 'Download' page, like this:

http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/2055

Left click on 'Kindle' and a dialog box appears inviting you to 'Open' or 'Save' the file.

Select 'Save' and the ebook will be downloaded into your 'Downloads' folder. When it is in there you can rename it because at that stage it will just have a Gutenberg reference number and not a title.

Plug your Kindle into a usb port and then drag and drop the ebook into the 'Documents' folder of your Kindle.

nb, I'm no computer expert, and there may be an easier way of doing it, but this is how I do it.

Harts at sea

Thanks SimbaDog, got it now after a bit of fumbling with country of residence.Amazon.com gave it to me eventually!

Downloading to Kindle

How do I get it from the download page there into my Kindle? Have only used Amazon so far, which puts it directly into the Kindle.

A good way is to use a bit of management software call calibre - its free from http://calibre-ebook.com/. From here you can manage all the stuff on your kindle, transfer different file formats etc - I have all my boat manuals in pdf transferred using it.

Enjoy

We have 2 kindles and buy books on our Laptop. They are automatically downloaded to PC and 2 kindles. This is for Amazon/Kindle which are the same company. If you want to load non kindle books then you need to use a conversion like calibre to doi it.

This may or may not seem as if I know what I am talking about - but I do not. I muddle through and it works for me
