Re: everything in moderation (bit long)

Agreed Mike, cheeky humour and good natured banter and well argued serios debate should be where the line is drawn and by and large Kim does a good job keeping the forum on the right side of that line.

Some recent posts, by people who should know better, are well over the wrong side of that line. I cannot stand political correctness but agree wholeheartedly with what TCM and Lynda have posted herabouts

Re: everything in moderation (bit long)

Whilst I appreciate the point you are making, this is an adult forum, written for and by adults, containing occasional adult humour, inuendo and thinly disguised 'adult' words. It is therefore YOUR responsibility as a parent to ensure that what they read is what you deem suitable, just as it is with books, television and access to other Internet sites. God help us if every contributor has to consider whether Young Bunty was likely to read what was being written, and this forum has to carry a U certificate.

ps I agree with much of what tcm and Lynda have said. I have a problem though. I am white, married, heterosexual and English. No-one seems prepared to stand up for my rights these days.

I just wanted to follow my start of this thread by saying that im totally against sensorship but agree that sometimes it may be needed on tv etc etc to protect the innocent.

As on here there are no natural boundaries to adhere to in the shape of a watershed or over 18's only area, maybe deleting some threads or posts is the only thing that can be done although is it not possible that the forum program could be altered so that each post can have a vote button that says remove and if the required number of votes are reached then the post/ thread is automatically removed, this is surely democracy and the adult way to deal with it. We would then be in control of our own forum.

I appreviate it could be open to abuse but if your screen name/passowrd had to be entered at the point of voting for a deletion ( not made open to the rest of the forum but available to Kim) it would makes sure that it was a fair vote. Kim then wouldnt have to monitor the threads or posts as much and only make sure that the votes were fair and not the same person voting over again to rid the forum of a thread post he/she may not like.

Im no computer whizz but looking at it it couldnt be that hard to do surely. Just an idea!

Self-censorship - not so sure

Kevin,
Sounds like a nice idea.

However, legally, I believe IPC are responsible for the content and it is they who would be standing in the dock if it went t@tsup.

For example, you may be aware that English fans swamped an Oz site around the rugby cup final and changed the vote regarding England's performance from 'boring' to 'scintillating'. No grounds for compensation there but suppose a poster started with 'All <insert colour of your choosing> people are retards' and then got their mates to vote. Result, IPC in dock not perpertraitors.

IMHO, Kim does a difficult job very well.

I some times question which threads get censored and which not. But it is IPC's forum and freely provided. When in my house everyone must follow my rules. Or get kicked out. Likewise in yours I hope.

Agree with Andy, though this was a boat forum, adult forum would suggest something else.
I DO try and ensure I know what my kids see, but you can't be everywhere.Adult inuendo, humour, etc would not normally give me cause for concern unless so blatent or bigotted as to be offensive

Phew! Thanks for that, I normally keep well away from the more controversial threads on the forum, but did feel moved enough to post my own thoughts on this one, so thanks for supporting my view.

I seem to have offended Kim by the rather "tetchy" response, not my intension, however, unless a person is of a certain, orientation, colour, religion etc, isn't it a bit assumptive to believe that THEY know what is and what is not offensive to that person?

Firstly, not a great fan of GN, however, not to be pedantic, your post is bollx....1 - GN is on Chan 4, hence no licence payers money goes into the funding as all paid for by commercials. and 2, GN is on a 10pm, after which time children are in bed. If children are watching TV at this time, blame the parents.

If you're gonna throw your toys around, make sure you are upset for a real reason! ;-)
