A mother-of-three was killed by a boat propeller after she was jolted overboard when the her Norfolk Broads cruiser bumped into a river wall, a report has revealed.

Laura Perry, 38, was standing on the rear aft deck when her family's 42ft-long hire boat hit the side while trying to turn around.

She tumbled into the River Bure and died of multiple injuries and drowning after becoming 'caught' in the propeller.

Very sad to hear this , time and time again accidents happen and mostly because the hire companies just throw you the keys and off you go . It’s totally wrong not only do you put your own family in danger as in this case but every one else as well .
I remember my days on the broads with my late fathers Princess 33 we kept at Brundall Bay , I’d list count how many times we were hit by hire craft , Dad eventually got fed up and moved the boat away , the last straw was a hire company that was totally uninsured and bankrupt but still operating , he had to foot the bill himself.
Another very sad incident for this family , condolences to all involved.

Sadly fatalities on the Broads do happen - I remember one year when there was something like six or seven, although to be fair that was unusual. Each one is a tragedy but a key factor, to my mind at least, is not recognising the dangers that accompany boating. Whether that manifests itself in drinking way too much and ending up in the water, poor boat handling or simple complacency, the common theme is failing to see the potential consequences. Condolences to all affected by this awful incident.

Especially when alcohol is involved.....this idiot was very lucky the propellers weren't engaged :cautious:

Nor should she - you should never be that drunk on a boat - lunacy.

A couple of drinks is fine, but too many hazards on a boat to be that drunk

Ive been pretty drunk on boats......Rum punch and a Barbados catamaran is a pretty lethal combination. And more than my fair share of Ibiza boat parties in my younger days

However, the captain of that boat is responsible for everyone on it and he/she should've made sure that that person was safe while onboard
