Using my tender yesterday and needed to stop the engine. Pulled the lanyard off the kill switch and enging kept running. Outboard is Mariner 2.5 two stroke at least ten years old. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Very simple normally closed switch, held open with spacer key. Either a wire off or switch faulty, should be easy to replace.

+1 Ten year old switch probably full of crud!

As suggested there was a wire off as the kill switch earth lead's screw had vibrated out.
Also two other screws quite loose. At least it was a very easy fix.
