Slightly worried that our 2stroke Suzuki 2hp dinghy outboard has no killcord just a STOP pushbutton.

The thought of falling out is bad enough without then being run over by the damn thing!

It shouldnt be too difficult to fit a killcord swith, I would imagine, but I am having difficulty sourcing one

ANy ideas?

If that sort of thing worries you, sell the 2st and buy a 4st :) You'll probably get more for a running 2 stroke than you think you will these days so the price difference might not be bad

Can't help with sourcing one, but agree it shouldn't be difficult. I have the same engine, and there's only one wire inside it. The stop button is a switch which either shorts this to the block or isolates it from the block (can never remember which, but it would be easy to check or someone will no doubt post). Wire in your kill switch once you've found it, drill a hole in the casing (should be enough space for the switch innards) and job done.

Can the little engine drive your dinghy fast enough to be at risk of throwing you out?

Pete

A killswitch and lanyard should be available to fit even if you have to change the connectors on the wires to suit. Your Suzuki agent should be able to help.
Alternatively have you investigated the possibility that a kill switch and lanyard for a 2.5 4-stroke might fit?

Generally you should be able to find universal fitting killswitches

its not the power of the engine that will throw me out its the smallness of the dinghy, with me at 6ft 4" and 100kg!!

4stroke replacement - no thanks - too bulky and heavy by comparison!

Fitting I am confident with, any kill switch will do, as you say - all it has to do is make or break a contact! Just cant find any online, guess I need to visit the agents!

I have the same problem with out Yamaha 4hp, but only last week I found a kill cord and swtich in a French chandlers. It was 20 euros if that is any help with pricing.

I had found one in the UK before but didn't have time to order and fit it, so they are available in the UK as well.

thanks all - have now found said item on ebay, I was stupidly searching for 'kill cord' when I should have been looking for 'kill switch'! Around £15

I might have a few kicking around you can have, PM me and I'm sure we could arrange something. (second hand btw)
