We are fast approaching that time of year again when we in Chichester Harbour take groups of children from special schools sailing or boating for the day. The event is run under the guidance of the KIDS OUT charity and Rotary and we dont leave the confines of Chichester harbour. The event is also supported by Chichester Harbour Conservancy, MDL, Premier Marinas Ltd, CYC the RNLI and the CG. Most years we get a display by the CG helio. This of course depends on other commitments. (Just keep your fingers crossed Sunsail arnt out that day!)

Several of you last year became first timers, others are now regulars that we see every year. Last year 50 boats took part leaving from Northney and Chichester marinas, plus pick ups from Itchenor pontoon. I have already had PM's from some of you asking if they can be included this year.

This year it takes place on Friday 5th June , . We still need more boats, our biggest problem is accommodating children who are in wheel chairs, so mobo owners would be most welcome.

If you keep your boat anywhere other than Chichester Harbour and would like to take part but are unsure how to get your boat in place for the Friday morning, please PM me, there is a way!

Regular questions that come up, and to dispel any fears:

1. Your normal boat insurance is more than sufficient, and must be in date. You are only taking some people sailing as guests. It is good practice to just inform your insurer.

2. You have only normal responsibility for the children, as you would for any other 'passengers' on your boat, this is not a charter, these children are not there as 'crew'.

3. Each child is the responsibility of the career on board, your responsibility is the boat. You will only be allocated the number of children/helpers suitable for your size of boat. Our team have been doing this for 29 years now!

4. All that happens once the children are aboard is that we motor down to East Head, anchor up, the children have their lunch, which is provided, and you return to your stating point by about 15.00.

We have about 150 children wanting to attend, this is the usual number, this year we are down on boats, we need another 19. Some people who were regulars have sadly had to sell, some retired from boating. If you are a regular but haven't returned your form yet then please do.

Please PM me if you want more information, or to get a phone number to talk to me.

Steve

We talked about this during Mercury.
Cant get the boat round but more than willing to come down and crew ( I have promised one boat but they may not need me)
please bear in mind my preference would be to crew on mobo rather than sail though I can cope....

Thanks D3B, There may be a need on a mobo, I know how much you hated being on a raggy on Sat, especially the bit when you said, "are we really going that fast?" /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Sorry about the heeling /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ahhhhh..

but you forget my tales of heeling over on FC down the Wallet while he cooked breakfast at 45 degrees....
I just LOVE being on a boat and really dont care anymore what type.....

thanks BTW I DID enjoy it....

Thanks Julie, it is boats we need I'm afraid. It could just be that this year we will have the tough decision to make in cancelling one of the schools, not something we want to do.

It is frustrating though, so many boats sitting in marinas week after week, never being used, someone like you would be more than capable of making good use of the boat for a good cause.

Wot a brave man, leaving his boat in the hands of a female helm! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Seriously though, what a generous offer from both of you, and his boat could not possibly be in better hands!

I'm afraid I can't help out with our boat - we've no leave left to get her from Plymouth and have to work that day. It sounds a fantastic event - are there others like it around the country? It is something I'd love to be part of.

Ok this sounds great, can you all PM me with your email address and I will get the paperwork sent to you. The kids will be real grateful for your help, believe me.

Got Pm from Adeolly; Alistair and Powerskipper can you PM me if you want to help. If you need to talk to me about the day then PM a phone number, I'll call you back.
