In a moment of carelessness and complacency, I accidentally
lost the keys to my S28 over the side. The surprising thing was,
even though they were attached to big cork ball, they sank like the
proverbial house brick!

Can someone please advise me of the best place to source replacement
Volvo Penta keys (the ones with the large flange type grip) - and roughly how much they cost. I thankfully have a set of spares, so have something
to cut from, should the need arise.

Thanks in advance.

Jerry

I live in fear of doing that and I have no spare!
I have my keys attached to a water bouy and a float but have never tested to see if they will float, just keep all pocket zips tightly zipped!
Good luck.

ps Look on the bright side. that is something you will only ever do once /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If you have lost your engine keys they are easily replaced via any Volvo distributor. Engine number is the part number.

Have you tried a big magnet on a long line. its well worth fishing around with a pick up magnet on a line, you will probably find a few old spanners nuts bolts prop keys and maybe a Rolex could even get your keys back.

Ha! talking about that yesterday in the Marina.
Me mate was helping Me fix Me boat a few years back and His Rolex dived in!
Saw it sticken out the mud a few Months later.

Dunno which model not a Rolex expert.
But it had a leather strap and was much smaller than current ones I have seen.
A bit of a Classic it seems.
Anyway it was no worse for wear and is tick tockin Today!

I have one of the Nautilica 'sea search' magnets on a piece of string.
It has come in usefull loads of times.

last year my local locksmith cut a set of spare Volvo keys for me (KAD300's). I was a bit surpised but it didn't seem to be a problem fro their perspective. Can't remember the cost but I'm sure it was less tha Volvo would have charged

I've just noticed form your profile that you are on the hamble, the locksmith is at Park Gate on the A27, a few miles along from Swanwick

I'm now interested to know if Kawasaki loses his bouyance with age?

As My Accountant once said.

'Yer jammy git, can You walk on water too'!

Turf Accountant, I would like to add.

My bouyance however is Peter Pan like.
Like brothers we are.

Does cork lose it's bouyancy with age

[/ QUOTE ] Dunno should not think so but think about how much weight it'll support.

Density of cork is 240 kg/m³

measure the ball calculate its volume 4/3 pi r³, then its weight.

subtract the weight in grams from the volume in cm³. Result is the weight including its own attachments that it'll support in grams. Unless its bigger than abt 5cm diameter it wont support much!

(density of seawater and of the keys ignored .... create a small safety margin)

Thanks for the replies & especially to Kawasaki for the offer of the key/lock assembly.

As I have the keys to cut from, I'll take a trip to RK Marine in the morning, and see if I can buy some blanks.

Thanks again.

Cannot recommend Waterbuoy strongly enough. I dropped our set of keys when I was refuelling in Epernay last year - much gasping in French, Dutch and German from others waiting their turn at the tanker. Much to everyone's amusement up they popped a few seconds later.

I reckon I could have sold a dozen.
