The SS kettle has had its day. A bit of rust and it lost its whistle ages ago when the spring on the spout cover failed. Probably bought from a local caravan shop.

So is there a better than average SS kettle? Do fast boil kettles boil faster? Is there a whistle I'll hear before the saloon become a sauna? Standard camping gaz 2 burner cooker.

One does like to put the kettle on............
 
Just been through a similar exercise, as the buyers of my old boat wanted me to include the stainless kettle! Then I found it difficult to buy a good-looking, good-feeling, replacement. Ended up with a Morphy Richards Accents kettle. I bought black, to match the galley worktops, but they do a stainless one too - Google for morphy richards 46505 - about £25.

Still have the kettle that came with the boat in 2006. Looked at the photos and there was mine, a Simplex.
Always took it for granted, now I've seen the price I'll take much more care of it.
 
We've got a bog standard cheapo kettle from a chandlers', the sort that is coloured, with a whistle. It boils much quicker than the "fast" kettle previously, the kind with a spiral going around the base.
 
I frequently sail single-handed and found that I tended to put too much water in my heavy, full size kettle so that it took ages to boil.
I therefore bought a smaller, lighter one with a folding handle from a camping shop. This boils slightly quicker, but I can't hear the whistle from the cockpit so I have reverted to the old one.

Your posh 3-5 pumps for me depending whats left in the kettle...

My kettle was given to me by my mother S/S big flat base to absorb the heat and a good whistle. This one is old 10 years+ I am always on the look out for another but have not seen one.

We use a small, plastic measuring jug that holds the same as a mug. First, pour any remaining water from kettle to jug. Make up jug with water until full, and pour back into kettle. Add further jugfuls depending how many mugs of tea are needed. Then put kettle on. This way we don't waste gas by overfilling the kettle.

That, my friend, is frugal. My life is far too short.

We fill the kettle from bottled water which makes measuring easy.
