hi ayesha

so, at last! i had despaired of finding/talking to someone who has renewed the keel bolts on a kestrel 22. good to talk and say hello and hopefully exchange info etc.
i have found your kestrel in some old owners association documents i inherited with bluebelle (sail no 103). seabird (sail no 149) was based at walton in 1967 and owned at that time by a mr kaye of margaretting in essex.

with regards to the keel bolts, i have spent a full day today doing battle with the things. score 5, 3, to the kestrel so far. i managed to get out the front one without much fuss and the bolt itself was not that bad. the next two again through the cast iron ballast were also ok, all the others are completely shot! some wasted away to little pointed spikes that snap as soon as you go near to them. i am going to try again on wednesday!

i would like to know how you went on with the centreplate when removing the keel? did you have to completely dismantle it in order to successfully free the complete keel, or were you able to just remove the pins and pivot bolts? please let me know.

my email address is ian@marsden41.wanadoo.co.uk if you would like to email me. i have noted your number (very kindly given) and i will give you a bell if/when i get stuck.

have you had a look at www.kestrel22.7h.com

myself and a couple of other keatrel owners have got together and are trying to find a decent website host for our little band. the website isnt great due to adverts etc, but hopefully a new one will shortly be available. there is a picture of bluebelle in her unrestored condition. also, if you click on the picture a history of her etc pops up. let me know what you think.

kind regards ian
