Kent jumble today

Went to the Kent Jumble today at the Hop Farm. Arrived at 12.30pm and found that the site was a fenced area in the corner of a field. There was about 50/60 Stalls plus about 6 stalls selling teas and coffees.
The area was on grass so I was glad it did not rain. I was disappointed as some of the stalls were starting to pack up and I heard one of the main stalls owner say that he would not be coming again.
The event was advertise as closing at 4pm but by 2pm most of the stalls were packed up. Verdict Disappointing.

A prospective customer bought in a really ancient Seavoice 100 yesterday,requesting that we check it over and fit a new microphone,no probs said we.Will give it to our mender to fix.

A hour later our mender wanders in ,announces he went to the local boaty boat fair and comments how much old rubbish was being palmed off on punters,even a dreadful unreliable Seavoice was on one the stands.
I duly handed the Seavoice over to him for repair

The Seavoice, if it's the old 8-12 channel grey model was a good set in its day. At one stage it was the only affordable VHF allowed on sale in the UK. There were two other makes but the price on them was prohibitive.

I was at the jumble for just after 10:00. it wasn't a great deal better then!
Got some large fenders, cheap, and a flagstaff but it wouldn't have been worth going just to browse in my opinion.

Yup thats the one its either full of Xtals or diodes to get the channels.
Anyhow its totally knackered but might be useful as an anchor or door stop.

To be perfectly fair, still not had a single problem with the new outdrive
I think that's the answer, instead of changing the oil every 100 hours, just change the whole thing!

Next boat will be twin engine though, and there's not a hope in hell of me having two of the things, it will be shafts or oars, no compromise!!

I went because its local, and arrived a few minutes before 10AM to find a long queue. I found a small pump that I needed plus a couple of odds and ends, and some fittings from A2-A4. I had a walk round on a nice sunny day and chatted to a few people. I left at about 12.30, by which time I had everything that I wanted. I did talk with a few traders who were not very pleased with the event and I doubt they will come to it again. Compass Marine gave me a replacement for a tender pump that was not working properly. Great service from them. I understood from A2-A4 that they are cutting down on boat jumble attendance because most sales are now by internet. Apart from Beaulieu, which I will miss this year because I will be in Sicily, I wonder how many boat jumbles there will be in a few years time.

It will probably just be the Crystals that need retuning. Somewhat of an obscure art these days I would think. There's not really a lot to go wrong with them.

We used to have a man who who would cut the xtals for the FQ we wished to generate. Used to take about week what with the post etc.
Now we do it in 30 secs with bit of software and a laptop.
