Hi, I have a moody S38 with a kemp mast, I have unstopped the mast and wantto thread some new electrical cable down the conduit, I have tried to unbolt the head box (4 x 5/8 bolts around the mast body and 4 x 17mm nylon nuts through the top plate) but the 5/8 bolts are so tight that I have sheared one off already so before I try the other 3 does anyone have any thoughts about why they are so tight, wouldn’t be left hand thread I guess.

The end cap is held on by four cranked bolts, inserted through the mast wall, into the cap, then nuts put on. It seems you have been trying to 'undo' the bolt heads, which of course is impossible. Undo the nuts and the cap will lift off.
Thank you for the information

I am going to attempt the same in the coming weeks, how much space was there in the conduit for extra cables?

HI, sorry for the late reply, I had enough room to feed a 10mm dia co axial cable down, it will probably depend what existing equipment you have mounted on the mast. Hope this helps

I missed this thread earlier in the year and am grateful it has been resurrected - seems people do you use the search function :)

I'd never heard of cranked or hooked bolts. I have led a very sheltered life. I must get out more. Thanks to Vyv and MartinJ.

Everyday is just extending my school days, though less females in this school :(
