The best thing I have seen, by far, is the young lad on kudo, on you tube. I would have tapped him, those films had an engagement, and a human connection that made it feel real. If he had continued, and gone round the top, it would have made a great series. Sadly he seemed to run out of money.

Nathan's stuff was great and he never demanded or even seemed to worry too much about money. It's the difference between documenting something you're doing for fun and trying to turn your hobby into a commercial venture.

But surely the only important thing is whether or not you find the films rewarding and interesting. I certainly do and really couldn't care less about DW's financial situation or anything other than my enjoyment of the KTL films.

It all depends on whether donations are seen as a voluntary payment for the films, or as support for the sailing holidays. If you take the former view then DW's wealth is immaterial; if you take the latter it's worth thinking about whether other recipients are more deserving. But it's your money and you are obviously fully entitled to spend or donate it as you wish.

I went back and took a look at the Cape Wrath video, I know that part of the world intimately from my climbing days, the filming was stunning. What put me off was his rants! I might and it is a big might watch them in the future with the sound off, it is pity as I've respected his work for a very, very long time.

There is a long tradition of well-spoken Englishmen coming to Scotland to explain it to the Scots. It gets wearing. On the other hand, I had great fun in the summer reading Neil Gunn's "Off in a Boat" while sailing around most of the places he visited. It's full of rants, but I can take them more easily from a Scot, or indeed from anyone who doesn't treat Scots with contempt.

I’ve seen a few and in those he sounds very keen on Scotland especially the north.
Not so keen on pollution, seagull outboards, 2-strokes generally, pollution, dredging for shellfish, non-paying guests & some other things I can’t remember.
None specifically Scottish that I recall.
(Didn’t he row with some Scottish forumites a year or so ago? Again, he rowed with some English ones too so probably not definitive.)

All covered already. He took someone else's IP, stuck his own copyright note on it and then, when challenged, tried to wriggle his way out of it by siccing his posse on the man, with conspicuous lack of success.

It's difficult to know, though, what he really doesn't like and what he just says to stir up a bit of controversy ("Arthur Ransome was a traitor, lads. Now get clicking.") and earn some money. For example, if he really cared about pollution as much as his rants about Seagulls would suggest, he'd hardly have gone through a series of boats with particulate-spewing diesels.
