As a result of this thread, I watched the Cape Wrath one. I won't be watching any others. Some of the photography was superb, although sometimes he panned round so fast that the picture broke up. What really spoiled it for me was that the commentary was drowned out by the unnecessary music, and the sound of seagulls. So thanks, but no thanks.

Each to their own. I loved this particular film and also enjoyed the music.

Got to disagree on every point there. If the picture is breaking up maybe your broadband is the issue. And the music we loved. I think the commentary has improved as Dylan get further round, quite dry wit and outspoken from time to time, its nice to hear another Grumpy stating the bleedin’ obvious from time to time.
We seem to see it as proxy sailing on a cold winter day.
 
The good news for DW is that he was on radio 4 for all of 2 seconds this morning. Chosen as the best clip from Farming Today of the last 80 years so no doubt he will be revelling in the bountiful royalties.

I think perhaps the terminology is the issue, he was certainly far too quick with the camera quite often, and the footage was out of focus (broken up).

I watched it, but was dissapointed to be honest, and I am really really interested in the waters he is in now. But hey ho, it will appeal to many, so more power to dylan. He has a definite audience and if folk like it enough to pay for it, all the better. I hope he gets his fisher and gets back to exploring scotland in more depth, he is really missing out.

Everyone is a critic. My own opinion is that the videos are excellent, perhaps the best sailing videos on YouTube.

There are several aspects of Dylan's videos that I really appreciate. I like that he begins with a Google maps view that shows where he is sailing. If he merely stated the name of the place, I would be pausing the video while opening another screen to figure out where it was. I also greatly appreciate the commentary that he usually includes on the history of the places he visits. I'm an American, and claim little knowledge of British history. The Keltic background music of the videos is superb. He uses it strategically, so there are long periods during the videos during which the natural sounds of the waves and birds are not obstructed. I am perplexed why he hasn't bought a drone. Perhaps having a bit of video where a drone flies over the boat has become a cliché for the sailing video genre.

Don't leave us hanging. If Dylan's work isn't your thing, which UK cruising videos on you tube do you prefer? Or is Dylan's output so bad that you prefer to watch makeover shows on TV?

Sounds like there might be some pretty good stuff out there that I'm missing.

I don't make a habit of watching other peoples holiday films, but as I know the area in question, and had seen mention of it in this thread, I thought I'd watch it. Is that good enough for you?

So as far as you know Dylan's films might well be the very best UK cruising videos available... I think many people would agree.

I'm sure they would, and glad they enjoy them. He is certainly the most prolific and consistent.
Video editing is a thankless and hugely time consuming task, so good on him for keeping it up. I'm glad you like them, and hope you tapped him.
I am a professional photographer, plenty of people look at my work, but don't hire me. It's not their style, or they do not think it is worth what I want paid. That's ok, it's normal. It doesn't offend me. I'm sure it doesn't offend Dylan, who, while I would certainly buy a lot of pints for as a thank you for advice in the past, produces films that don't float my boat enough to make me want to watch the entire series, or pay for the little bits I have watched.
I'm not sure you need to get offended in his defence.
Regarding uk cruising vids, Dylan's is a lot better than most, but that's not difficult to be honest, as there is nothing much of quality or interest to watch that I have found.
The best thing I have seen, by far, is the young lad on kudo, on you tube. I would have tapped him, those films had an engagement, and a human connection that made it feel real. If he had continued, and gone round the top, it would have made a great series. Sadly he seemed to run out of money.
In all honesty, there is no you tube sailing vids at all that have made me want to watch them all, apart from Kudo. The next best ones are barry's old sea dog adventures, I have dipped into some of them from time to time. None of the sun sea and tits ones interest me.
The most beautiful one is the French single handing one to the Faroese linked to in another thread, that is superb. I would watch his series, but he hasn't made one :)
Someone mentioned teleport in the nw passage, I'll try that at some point.
If you know of any other uk ones worth watching, feel free to post them.

Teleport covered a young couple sailing the north west passage over I think 5 years. very worth watching. think they both are photographers.

Yes. Dylan does produce great yachting porn . But we can forgive him. He's young
and does needs the money. :)

Somewhat aged, asset rich in an area or two , loves his sailing but generally skint
with the pension pot probably not too rosy , sometimes gets carried away with himself and
opinionated to boot. I think that makes him just like you and me and just a human
being.

The difference is, that in a particular different area he can produce something very worthwhile . Unfortunately, this often puts a lot of pressure on him . I
hope he keeps going with the project but being further away and in open water
will be testing , and expensive.

Personally , I would like him to just trail and sail in different areas
and concentrate on estuary sailing in something like a Swift 18 that's built for the job. It doesn't really matter where it is but needs not to be too far away from home .
