Keep Turning Left.

I think it a great shame the KTL project is incomplete: a video record of the coastline of the UK in the early 21st Century by an expert film maker is both an enjoyable watch and an important record.

This is exactly what I have been saying for some time. This aspect is invaluable, and trumps lots of other considerations. I will continue to "tap" for as long as new stuff keeps coming out. I think many guys here underestimate how important this sort of "quirky" stuff can be.
(in addition to being very enjoyable for YoursTruly)

I’ve just watched the latest KTL on Cape Wrath and thought it was excellent.

I happily ‘tapped’ to hopefully support the continuation of his journey.

I haven’t always liked the comments on the films but so what? The films are top quality, beautifully filmed and edited and always interesting and entertaining.

I have briefly met Dylan and would love to meet up again over a dram or three. Hopefully he will continue with KTL and complete the journey.

Indeed.

As Vic said above "the guy made good films people enjoyed.
The real losers here are those who enjoyed his films, which in my eyes is a real shame.
There no way near enough good sailing stuff around."

It's a pity that others are not so appreciative of Dylan's creative efforts. :(

...

In what way is it important?
Interesting ... yes to people who enjoy such films.

What is interesting today is rarely important today.
However in the future ‘tomorrows’ even stuff that was barely interesting to contemporary viewers could be important.
The really interesting stuff that captures geography, social exchanges perspectives and attitudes will certainly be important.
Just looks at ‘Beyond the West Horizon’ - ignore the Sailing and listen to the commentary to inform you of the style and attitudes of the the sailors as well as a surprising reminder about just how impoverished Southern Europe was just a relatively short time ago.

As with much that is ‘important’ you may not realise how important it is when you have it, but you may realise it was important when you lose it - but of course by then it is too late.

Hi Richard,
Just to clarify, there are no losers. Keepturningleft is still active. Dylan has a website. He has a boat. He has a good strong following in the US. His films are on a blog and on youtube. He states he has lots of films to edit Yet. he has a plan. Its in his hands. So in reality its as strong as it ever was. No he does not have a Fisher 25 as yet, but I'm sure he will.

So why the infantile and totally inappropriate slur aimed at Vic in your post #74 referring to his ban when he is clearly a supporter of Dylan's efforts?

Hi Richard,
I'm not going there. Just clarifying the position of KTL. Its there, anyone can benefit from it. anyone can donate. I think Vic had said he was not too aware of the films. Ive no problem with Vic. I'm sure hes quite capable of looking after himself. I could give you some advice but in the spirit of the forum I'm not going too.

I totally understand why you don't want to go there Steve .... if I had said something as infantile as that then I wouldn't want to go there either. :(

But please feel free to give me your advice. I'm all ears. :encouragement:

There was there was a programme on TV a while back called glimpses. There was an episode of a trip along the south coast in a motorsailor in 1938 calling at quite a few ports including megavissy and falmouth with a trip past the Cutty Sark in sailing trim, anchored in Falmouth. The trip finished in Sennen, it could have been a 1938 episode of keep turning right and was a real historical view of a pre ww11 coastal life now gone. The film included the construction of the boat and the fitting of the pair of austin triton engines. It was social history at its best.
If its repeated and you have not seen it watch it to see what ktl could be in 80 years

Hi Steve

It was your PMs and reporting me to the Mods which annoyed me after I offered to apologise to you if you had intended your comment as a joke and I had mis-interpreted it.

Anyway, thank you for the apology and let's move on. :)

Best wishes

Richard
