It's been a while since I saw someone run aground quite so comprehensively, but on Sunday we saw two sailing boats go up on the mud just north of Mill Rythe within ten minutes and a hundred yards or so of each other, cutting the northern corner of the creek at the top of the tide. I won't name them as they're neighbours and may exact revenge later. Being a bank holiday I expect the scene was repeated across the nation.
The ever-helpful HM eventually got the larger boat off, after a local MoBo, "Birthday Boy", first went to their aid then went and pulled the litl'un off. The only other time I've seen Birthday Boy was late last year when someone else ran aground in the creek, and he pulled them off after we passed a line. This can't be a co-incidence so if you do see them around, check the echo-sounder quickly.
The moral for sailors is, I guess, not to cut corners and always be nice to motor boaters, who will help you when all else goes the shape of a pear.
