Unfortunately my moody has taken on some salt water which has lain in the bilges for somewhile over lockdown and has let to some significant rusting. I have removed surface rtust applied kingston kurust followed by 2 vcoats of hammerite anti rust paint. Anybody have any further suggestions to protect the bolts - they are mild steel.
Many thanks

Once upon a time, Hammerite was good stuff. No longer, unfortunately, but I don't know of anything better.

You've probably done the best you can, but expect to repeat the treatment regularly.
I agree re Hammerite, it is not what it used to be unless you paint on loads of coats. I found a tin in the garage when we moved house which I had bought to paint a rusty cross member on a series 3 LR. It was the 'old recipe' Hammerite - guaranteed to give you a headache if used in an enclosed space and great results after one or two coats. In comparison, some new Hammerite on the aquadrive was hopeless after four coats ?.

Keep the bilges dry and you shouldn't have further problems.

I coated mine about 17 years ago with several coats of cheap bitumen based car body underseal. Nothing else. The nuts/studs are still as good as new with no signs of rust. Before I bought the boat they had been covered with flowcoat which cracked, let standing bilge water in and the nuts became so corroded that I had to replace both them and the studs.

Underseal 'self heals' if it gets scratched. It also stuck to the flowcoat around the bolts. Once it dries (very quickly) it's not sticky so it won't get anything stained. I'm not sure if the better quality underseals perform in the same way.
