Hello Dear boaters.

I have a hunter europa with some visible corrosion on the keel boat heards, its from 1974 so this is inevitable.

is it possible to fix, should I be worried? Will attach pictures in a moment.

Thank you.

David.

Pretty common in older boats with mild steel bolts and bilges that hold water. They look like nuts on studs and the normal treatment is to clean them up and see how bad it is on the nuts and plates underneath. You may well find that just cleaning and painting is enough, but if the plates are bad then remove the nuts and replace with new. probably in 316 stainless if you can get it. Studs are almost certain to be in good shape.

From what I can see in the photo, the nuts, or bolt heads are well rusted.
It looks like you'd struggle to get a spanner or socket on and apply any sort of torque.
I'd chip and wire brush at least one of them, and repost a photo, you'll need to do this anyway to treat with rust remover and then paint.
With luck a new photo will help people to advise if it's a serious problem.
