Had a morning of tuition this morning from the man himself. Mainly passage through the swellies. I helmed to the south once and to the north twice. Kawasaki took us south the wrong way at around twenty knots!

I learnt a great deal and having never been there before, couldn't believe how pretty the area is. The tides really are remarkable! We had a quick look at Caernarfon bar but it looked nasty so we gave it a miss.

What really struck me was the beauty and the amount of places to moor and anchor. Can't wait to spend some proper time there.

kWACKERS knows his stuff and I hope he makes it clear that doing a 20 knot run around slackwater is not a good Idea! It is usually a bit crowded then!
I recently met a large Sunseeker from Conway who shall be nameless who thought he was still driving on the A55 and passed me green to green at 25 knots less than 6 feet apart by Cribbin on the transit. He must have only cleared Cribbin rock by a nats togger without ripping out his stern gear... He just about missed the Swelly rock pylon but only just.... Looked like an accident waiting to happen all the gear (none worn) and no idea........

Make sure you spend a night in Port Dinorwic. We all appreciate a new forum members generosity!

You missed out seeing one of the best anchorages

Couple of things Steve
Yer Man Dan is an experienced yacthie (seen the light obviously!) on the first 'pass' through said narrows we followed a Plas Menai training youghurt at youghurt speed warp 6kts
Which was good to point out the way plus not to 'make a mess of the sea' , more of that in a Mo!
So after we had nudged into the Basin at PD and tootled to Rowan Bay we zoomed off to explore 'the gap' and poked our noses out but it was runnin like a good and wind against, some tasty standing waves as you can imagine so we got ready to go about or whatever youghurts do and ticky tackied int to the Dock bit at Fort Belan then slid across to Aber Menai to show Danferry the place to drop the hook
Then we went into Victoria dock after nosing towards the Seiont
Then we checked out Rowan Bay again and went with the back eddy to PD and then we did , well He did some 'High Speed' handling
Like figures of 8 at a crazy angle and sussed out which way She turned bestist!! (the grin on yer man's face was worth a picture but I was too busy anging on!!!
Then we got to the Swellies again and there was nobody about so we did it twice or thrice at speed and then we went the wrong way round behind Ynys Gorad Goch and the flow was flowing like a flowing thing!
Then it was off to Puffin to show the Gap in the reef, cos we done the Swatch earlier
Then it was a right beam on sea but I was well impressed how She handled it (the vessel not the Helm!) although the Helmsman did ok (for an ex yachtie geezer), I,m digging a hole here!
But She went through a few holes by the way and that was impressive too, for a Planing hull/ outboard boat, it was impressive-- Did I say that earlier?
Then we practiced parkin, Dan's current berth is not ideally suited to the shape of the blunt end of said ship so pionty end in at the Mo, which makes it hard to childers aboard etc but I,m sure the lovely Peeps in Conwy will arrange sumatt better
All in all a Great Day, the weather Gods smiled a little and Dan got to see anchorages and the Swellies and the Strait a bit more and the gaps in the sand and all that there
And I got me usual £60 an Hour plus K.A.T!!!;)
Oh Yeh, I nearly forgot! 'Mess of the Sea'
Yer Man Dan was telling Me, when He first tood said vessell out with His Wife and Family it was nice and flat so He gave Her the Gun (the boat that is) and Mrs Dan looked aft and said to Him 'You have made an awfull mess of the Sea'!
That made I Larf!! a 'remembered quote that is
:D
