Tranora. It is Epifanes Wood finish, which looks wonderful, but is a lot of work and doesn't last. I looked at a Crabber in the yard that uses Cetol. It looks good, but doesn't have the same gloss finish. I am in two minds, and believe the colour of the stain coat would make a difference, but I want to avoid devaluing the boat.
Personally If starting again I would use Cetol HLS Plus and then No7. I did the mast of my Eventide with it using the pine stain a couple of years ago and it looked fantastic. Although I have sold the boat I had expectations it would last at least 10 years. Agree it is not as glossy as Epifanes but that is a small price to pay for the reduction in maintenance and long life. Cannot see why it would devalue the boat - more likely have the opposite effect. My GH is finished with Woodskin on the rub rails toe rails etc, but at some time bits have been replaced so the colour is variable. Not sure what I will do to improve those parts. Cockpit coamings are in conventional varnish of some sort, but only the rail on the aft of the cockpit needs redoing and will probably use Woodskin for this.
As an aside I was so impressed with Cetol that I used it on the replacement wooden bargeboards on the house. Hopefully I will live long enough to prove it was a good decision!
