A friend has kamd43 engines.
One was overheating slightly so has removed impeller which was well worn and probably the cause of the overheating.

But one of the screws for the cover plate has snapped off and cant get the remaining part of the screw out.
We are at Wells Next the sea and far from anything remotely Volvo Penta.

Is it safe to run at sea with 5 out of the six screws securing the raw water pump cover plate ?

Nobody in their right mind will tell you that it's safe to go to sea with one screw missing. (there is a pun to be had there!)
Miss out going out this weekend and work on getting the screw out instead while waiting for new screws in the post.

Five screws will hold the plate in place, but you might want to check it occasionally. I doubt you will get even a drip of water.

Thanks for the support.
Greater effort and removal of the pump has allowed the broken end of the screw to be removed.
A M5 stainless screw was in my tool box and seems a perfect fit. It seems to be doing the job until a new screw of the correct material can be obtained.

That's interesting.
The screw I provided as a temporary fix is A2 . I imagine A4 is required in the longer term.

Not really; the screw is not exposed to saltwater, unless the seal leaks. I ran M5 A2 ( "Allen" head) stainless bolts on the raw water pump of my 5.7 GXi petrol engined boat for over 9 years without an issue. Much better than the original slot head brass ones.
