KAMD300 Clutch not engaging - fuse and clutch ok!

Hello All,

I noticed today that my clutch on the compressor of the Volvo Penta KAMD-300A is not engaging at the usual 1400 rpm (or any rpm for that matter).

I checked the 7.5A fuse below the electronics box (both of them, just to be sure) and they were fine.

I connected 12V to the clutch directly manually and it engaged and disengaged with no issues.

When I put the voltmeter across the wire terminals coming from the black electronics box (where the clutch usually connects), it does not register 12v at any rpms.

Other than a broken wire (which I haven’t ruled out but not expecting) is there something else I can look into. A relay for example?

Thank you

George

ECU fault .

Have you got the EDC workshop manual? If not, send me a message with your email address and I'll send you a copy.

As well as a knackered ECU, could also be a fault code that needs clearing or the clutch solenoid.

I am experiencing a similar issue on my IPS 600's. When I get to roughly 2,300 RPM, the Port engine whines and goes up to 3,000, maybe more. The starboard stays at around 2,300. I get the error of death every time. I back it down right away. She cruises fine below 2,300 - the engines are in perfect sync.

The codes haven't solved anything. In fact, I have spent a small fortune to get to this point.

The service team said it's probably a Clutch Pack. Has anyone had the same issue with the IPS 600? This is after already replacing the injectors and some solenoid thing on both engines.

Having fun! Throwing money around. Please help confirm if it's worth getting this fixed.

Thanks, Jim

Jim, you'd be better off starting a new thread.
