Morning all,

Recently purchased a new boat, and although it had a hot water calorifier on when I viewed during the prep the dealer took it off as apparently it was knackered. Needless to say I'm not too happy but that's a whole other story. Anyway, when they took it off, they just connected to water hoses from the engine together as you will see from the attached photos.

I'm now looking at putting a new calorifier in myself but not being particularly mechanical cannot work out which way round the water flows. You will see from the attached photo I've marked up with numbers 1 and 2. Would anyone know which way the water flows from 1 to 2 or 2 to 1?

Thanks in advance for your help.

All the best!

Have a look at marinepartseurope.com, find your engine, look under the cooling system, and then find the diagram for hot water outlet. You should be able to figure it out from there.

Great, thanks for that. Really useful bit of advice for looking at other things too!

So think I found the relevant diagram which assuming it is, cable 1 from the picture in my first post will be the hot water inwards to the calorifier?

Cheers

It's not a cable, it's a hose :D. Your photo doesn't help because you can't see the ends of the hoses. I'd go off the diagram

Edit: but just to add, your calorifier is going to have such a titchy heating coil that it doesn't really matter which way round you connect it.

Haha yes indeed, hose not cable, not sure what I was thinking.

The trouble is, the surecal calorifiers I've been looking as say the hookups from the engine have non return valves and specify input and return to and from the engine so I think I do need to make sure I connect the right way around.

Cheers for the help :-)

It's not easy to see which hose is which from the photo.
But the "outlet" hose connects to just underneath the rectangular thermostat block.
"Return" hose is connected a bit futher down near the circulation pump body.

Thanks guys, I suppose it's easy for me as I have in my minds eye which hose goes where, so I've added some colour to try and demonstrate.

Cheers

But FlowerPower, it is the red hose that comes out just underneath the rectangular block in line with the belts, which is comforting as that is what I had originally thought. Good to know I must be learning something :-)

Thanks very much :-)

The cold feed in has the non return valve, the coil will work both ways so not a problem, engine connections are hot out from fitting in front of thermostat housing and return goes into side is circulating pump under filter.
