Lifted the engine bay hatch for pre cruise checks at the weekend and heard a small water trickle to ones horror, after wrapping myself round the engines i identified the leak to be coming from the little black thingy in the photo.

It feels like there is a plug or blank cap at the back directly behind the left hand small hose that appears to have a pin hole leak.

I think its been there for a couple of weeks as i noticed recently while getting onto the plane the bilge pump alarm has been going off and having stayed on board over the weekend it likes to alarm around 6am :(

Can anyone help me identify what part this is, what it does? Not sure if repairable i guess it needs to come off to see. Its on the port side of the starboard engine and there doesn't appear to be one on the port engine!

Due to the basking weather in the west coast at the weekend obviously i decided to enjoy the weekend:D

Thanks Flowerpower that's the answer i was looking for, I'm guessing its an easy enough DIY job to change then as long as i blank the seawater intake on the shield?

It's the cooler for the power steering fluid, which is why it's only on the engine with power steering.

New one is £350 or so, part number 21710298.

Coastal Rides have a second hand one for £135 ... http://coastalrides.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=15616

...but if possible, I would go with a new one, as if it fails, you sink!

There is a drain tap fitted in bottom of cooler, part no. 997641, worth looking at that before buying new cooler.

I noticed that on the ones ive seen for sale or on marinepartseurope showing exploded views but i actually didnt feel one on mine, the ones i've seen with drain cock are a replacement part for the original part so i wonder if they changed them? I'm pretty sure when i felt round the back of the cooler it was pretty much flush, behind the left hand hose it felt more like a blanking plate or something with a pin hole leak, i'm hopefully going to remove tonight and will check. Thanks

Hmmm, that doesn't look too clever. I would also check that everything is bonded the way it should be / check for stray currents when replacing. It could be that the previous one fizzed away due to electrolysis. I had a similar problem on a heat exchanger end cap on an old boat, solved in the end by adding an extra bonding wire back to the block.

I'll check it out this weekend, thanks again
