KAD32 Rev Counter When Compressor is Running

[ QUOTE ]
That's some interesting reading - good thing I tightened my belts before reading this or you'd have made me rightly paranoid!

I've just re-read your previous comments and hopefully this time it is as simple as tightening the belts (to the torque spec) I guess I have switched into panic mode after the last episode. Interesting that the RPM symptoms are the same.

Hi
I understand your reply but just for my enquiring mind I have some questions.
If there was a short in the coil would that not blow the fuse?
If there was a break down with the coil would not a ohms check show it up - compare one coil against another?
Could the voltage drop be caused by dirty contacts say on the speed relay pins or on the supercharger wiring plug.
I look forward to your reply.

Hi this reply was made from a job I carried out, and eventually swapped the chargers over from one engine to the other to totally eliminate the problem, it seems the wiring in the coild oes break down as the old one was taken by the owner to an electrical reind company in Christchurch, they stripped the coil and found the problem, rewound it for him as a spare.

Yes the coils were measured and were not the same.

The slight short in the coil caused more load on the whole system, I swapped rev counters over and the drop in reading was still the same.
Went down basic route for dirty contacts etc, ive since fitted a separate relay thats activated from the black bos on some boats to take the main load off the black box, as a cheap relay does the job and saves buying the VP box next time it burns out.

Hope thats of interest to you.

Thank you for such a speedy reply.
Yes, it was of interest to me and now I will hopefully remember it to become part of my experience of these engines.

OK, thanks for that. It certainly isn't belt slip, as it's been consistent on that engine despite belt changes, retensions, alternator swaps etc, hence the speed control relay being my next port of call. I'll swap the chargers over first and see what that does.
