KAD32 known engine problems??

Sounds like an engine that has not been used regularly, but tbh:
Supercharger
Sumps its a 17 year old engine so normal
Rust perhaps
Pulleys ok see original comment
Batteries only last 4 to 7 years
Water in gear oil , I assume outdrive so it happens
Bellows leaking should be changed anually when the drives are serviced
Gear case corroded to holes??? this is worrying I assume this is corrosion of the outdrive?
Wiring loom chaffed?
Calorifier , they have a finite life not expensive to replace
Throttle cable stikcing they have a finite life not expensive to replace

If you are serious get an engineer familiar with the engines ie a dealer engineer or an ex to look at it, also ask for the service history. Depending on the last two make an offer reflecting that.

Low end market price seems to be £40K for a runner.
Bearing in mind all problems be surprised if,when owners finally give up trying to flog it to time wasters and part exchangers, they get more than £15K-£20K ?
If the mechanics and obvious stuff is this bad, bound to be hidden water ingress and interior problems to sort as well.

My thoughts are that if they have neglected the engines and drives, are thee going to be other problems. I know they are open to offers, but by how they are willing to drop I dont know. I dont think I would feel confident with this boat so I am going to give it a miss and carry on the search. Unfortunatly budget will only allow to go upto £40k. Off to Chichester tomorrow to view a Bavaria 29DC. She is a single engine and looks quite promising.

Oily water in any drive is a recipe for total disaster failure, I know you spend most of your time pottering on the fosdyke, use you leg at sea with water in and you will net a different result. The first problem you have with emulsified oil is a slipping cone clutch and loss of the case hardening of the upper and lower gear set, along with rapid bearing wear and eventual failure of the upper bearing above the drive cone.
Unless you had the drive totally stripped after the water ingress totally flushed out casing spilt into three sections you will still have emulsified oil in there. 2 k for a recon leg???? There have been many discussions on here about recon drives from two uk companies, I can personally speak that you can be on to a real hiding buying so called recon drives.

A bottom gear set along for a duo prop DPE is 2k , then you have to stop and build the leg along with endless time shimming up the backlash. A new drive cone alone is over £300 plus fitting. Unless your company stripped your drive right down then the clean bill of health is worthless.

:D

Yes we must teleport NC during the summer months if we dont use her on salt water............:D

The drive is flushed through every time it is found to have water in the oil. This time for example it was flushed with fresh oil three times before all traces of emulsification were gone. It then had its final fill with fresh oil ready for another long season of "pottering" around on the East coast.
