I understand that volvo issued a service bulletin last year to cover the above which had issues with shaft breaking/snapping. Just happened to me and want to get some cash back. Does anyone have a copy they can send/fwd me? Thanks in advance!

I suspect that your engine might be well out of warranty unless it was a new pump

The service bulletins are to highlight problems and are not recall listings

Still interested what the bulletin was if anyone knows?

My pump was recently replaced (maybe 200h) and the shaft snapped, talked to VolvoPenta and they did not confirm any general issue. They did however say that they had a few instances of the pulley not being 100% attached to the pump creating a small vibration that over would cause the shaft to break.

My Pal had D6s in his Princess V42 - happened to both his engines within about 20 hours of each other when they were at around 250 hours.

He explained it was due to poor undercut at a shaft shoulder corner causing stress raisers and the source of the failure fatigue crack. These pumps are common across many engines, so a defect in one from around that time (~2009 or 10 boat), could easily be found in another.

Ruined his trip West a couple of seasons ago, but VP did cough. Latent defect liabilities under statutory law I believe are for ~ 6 years. Don't let them wriggle out of it.

Ye gods, the more I read about problems affecting diesel engines the more worried I get about my 2009 one. I bought the boat for better fuel availability and being brainwashed by the boating consensus relating supposed increased reliability and safety compared to my previous petrol engined boats ( which never, ever let me down). My own experience so far is very bad; less than 1 hour use last season. The marina now sell petrol as well !

You won't believe this... today i had a call from the Targa 30 owner... port engine overheated. ? so even the new-style pumps are not ok. Contacted Volvo and ordered again a other pump because the guy want's to use his biat now at last the sun is shining... is there someone with a alternative for the genuine Volvo pump? Or has someone an old 42/42 etc with an good pump wich i can buy? Beteer an used pump with 1000 hours than a new Volvo pump.
