KAD32 flushing

Depends, how long you want to flush engine for? I use outboard muffs from my mariner 40 they don't fit perfectly but I just get my mate to hold them on tightly. I don't run the engine for long but it works okay. This is done when offshore by the way. I have heard of someone buying a spare raw strainer cap the big one were the filter is and amending it with a water pipe fitting so that a hose pipe could be attached. Hope this is of some help

Hi
I assume we are talking outdrives here? As already mentioned 'headphones' or 'muffs' whatever you want to call them are the way to go, however the 290 leg has a hole at the front of the lower casing (just below the water intakes) this is to allow water through in case the main intakes get blocked say will a poly bag and should if not at full power allow the engine to operate without overheating (although it will be a bit warmer). You will need to insert a piece of tapered dowel or I did see someone use a silicone tube nozzle once, obviously it was an old one full of harden silicone so not to allow a flow of water through it! Or get a mate to put his finger over the hole and he can also hold the muffs in place (just make sure he is wearing waterprooofs). I flush the engine this way first of all so that I have at least attempted to clean the inside of the outdrive. Then I move onto the step below once the outdrive is removed.

If/when the outdrive is off then adapt a hose to fit the water intake pipe, turn water on and fire up the engine and stand back. I use this system but with a piece of pipe going into a tub with an antifreeze mix in, the engine sucks up the mix, circulates it and out of the exhaust back into the tub. I run the ngine for about 15 minutes. The boat is normally only out for 6 weeks but I just feel happier know that the raw water side has been flushed and only has an antifreeze mix in it with hopefully is inhibiting it as well.

I hope this answers your question.
