My boat has a V-P KAD32 engine fitted with a DP-E leg. What is the method, please, for flushing out the raw/sea water side of the engine with fresh water? The boat would be out of the water at the time. Thank you for your help.

Trim up the drive and remove the 'S' hose at the drive beneath the bellows, stick 3ft of hose pipe in tighten the hose clip and place the other end in a bucket, trim the drive down again.
Fill the bucket with a hose and leave it running so that it keeps the bucket overflowing, start your engine and make sure that water comes out of the exhaust within say 20-30 secs, then have a cup of tea whilst keeping an eye on the bucket so that it never empties. If the engine won't suck water up the hose then hold the water hose against the end of the hose in the bucket while a mate starts the engine, this should get it pumping as now there is positive flow to the pump, when it does then swap back to the previous setup.
When the engine has run for about 10mins you can mix up a couple of buckets of water and antifreeze 50/50 and place the short hose in these until all has been sucked up into the engine, by now you will see antifreeze in the exhaust water, thats it job done, refit the S hose and have another cuppa.

Thank you very much for a really comprehensive reply, Spannerman. I appreciate your advice.

Just a couple of further questions.

(i) I have seen earmuff devices for attaching to drive legs. Do you know if one is made to fit my leg?

(ii) I have been told to buy spare cap for the raw water filter, drill a hole in the centre and fit a HozeLok type fitment onto which can be attached a hosepipe whilst flushing. I appreciate this method would not flush out the leg and any hoses, etc., 'downstream' of the filter - as your method does - but it would make for a really speedy attachment method. Do you have any experience of this idea, please?

I have never seen this method on the seawater filter but it could work for just flushing, but if you are going to do winterizing it won't protect the powersteering oil cooler which is bewteen the drive and the seawater pump.
The water muffs don't work well as you have a small hole in the nose of the drive which will let the water out again unless you plug it, the problem is the water inlets are close to the front of the drive and its tricky to get a good seal, there was a special moulded attachment years ago for Volvo drives but never used one myself.

Thank you for such a speedy response, Spannerman. I can understand fully your comments about the two methods I mentioned and will certainly adopt your original method. Thank you so much for your advice.
