Hi,
I have a metallic tapping-pinging-clattery noise coming from the compressor...not sure how else to describe it! Its only there when it first cuts in, so when cold, disappears and runs fine after about 30 seconds.
I have changed the clutch and gapped it correctly and double checked ive fitted it correctly.
I did some other maintanance recently which meant i had to undo the big bolts that hold it so i could drop it out the way but never removed it.
I took the top off and looked down inside and there is no scoring or anything untoward going on in there. I started it up with the top off and when it cut in there was NO metallic tapping-pinging!? Put the top back on and there it is again!!!?
Checked all the things the manual says check and im none the wiser.

I'll answer my own question as I found the problem. One of the nuts that holds the oil filter bracket underneath the compressor had come off and got wedged and, at just the right rpm, it would vibrate and made a lovely metallic ping ping ping noise. What a warm fuzzy feeling you get inside when you find such a simple fix after so much fretting ?
