Hi all,

Been using th boat quite a bit in this lovely weather without an issue - yesterday all was fine.

Today however although as far as I can tell all is fine, the boat was VERY slow to get through the supercharger range. The charger kicks in and I can feel the increased torque to start with but as I increase the power the torque seemed to fizzle out and it took ages to get over the hump and on the plane. Once on the plane engine and boat responded as expected just seemed that it struggled with the upper end of the charger range.

Anyone experienced anything similar that can give me pointers on what to look at?

Were you going into a small head sea? If all was well yesterday etc and before you look for gremlins iron out the environmentals. IIRC you are new to the boat? You may find that with a bit of mid season growth etc the boost may be marginal. I know with mine fully fueled etc and heavy if I have a short chop head on of about 3/4 to 1m the boat will get to 16knts and then really struggle to just climb over the bow wave at 17.5 knts and fully on the plane before being knocked back to 16knts at the next wave. Rather than labour the engine I will turn 180 degree and go with the wave until on the plane or if the chop is not too short or steep will run obliquely to the wave face before turning back in..

Mine was fully fuelled and admittedly I had quite a few people on board today instead of the usual myself and partner but I’ve had the rest of the family on board a few times before without this issue.

I was out for a few hours today travelling both with and against the tide but really made no difference. Was pretty calm too!

Weight and its distribution is a funny thing on boats in my experience. The tipping point can be fine and pronounced. Although Im not sure what boat you have mine is a 34 foot sports cruiser. I would see what its like next time before stressing. I will often do 5 adults and 3 kids on mine. However one friend is a big man. 4 adults with them and unless he is at the front of the upper cockpit with the ladies at the back in the lower cockpit and kids where ever she wont bring her bows down and plane no matter how much tab is down.

Edit. He is a really big fella though. Squeezing him into the largest life jacket they make is still a bit hit and miss

usually it's just me, the other half and my 8yr old daughter And as I say no problems. Was off a few days towards the end of last week and clocked up quite a few hours without issue. Today I had my parents, my sister and her two kids so yes considerably more than usual but I took them all out only a few weeks ago without issue which is the odd thing. I will take her out again tomorrow with just me and the other half and see what she's like.

I've got a 26ft sports cruiser.

Cheers for the help

Are you sure re supercharger? If it's very slow til turbo kicks in at about 2700..and I mean minutes..I d guess the supercharger clutch has gone. Check the fuse..I think it is under the black box by the ecu..usually blows if clutch is knackered.

For me a few weeks ago the barnacles werent breeding. In our estuary the wise man pulls his boat out this time of year for his annual AF. None in my locale are wise though and do a mid season jet wash instead. Your mileage may vary but all Im saying is a one off symptom you are experiencing may well be environmental rather than gremlin. To me, you were probably heavier this time round and probably have just that more a dirty bottom, still learning your boat and seasonal impact etc.

I've got pants sound proofing in the engine bay and the engine is right underneath the helm so there's is no mistaking the charger kicking in - can 100% hear it engage and as soon as it does the torque is there up to about 14 - 16knts or so, it's just getting through the top end of the charger range And the boat on the plane I'm struggling.

Yes looking at everything logically environmentals does seem to make sense. I've had the boat a fair while but had a few issues the first year. Touch wood I've seemed to iron everything out during last winter but I'm still a bit touchy when something goes awry :p

Just thought I'd update you and say you must have been right. Took the boat out yesterday with just me on board and no problem what so ever.

Very strange though - as I say I've had exactly the same people on board previously without an issue. Now on to solving the next issue :-)

:encouragement: Great news, not all is gremlin. Check for any growth, with these temps and seas, it's going to get rough quickly.
