So. I’m having a issue with my gears. I had got a rope stuck round a prop. Which I had to cut free. When started back up was running with a slight noise which after around a minute died down. Run For around 6 hours and it was fine. When I went for the next leg of our trip the water was cutting up rough. Got about 7 miles in And all of a sudden the drive. Started making some bad noise. Had to put in idle speed and use my port for power and limped it to the next port about 12 mile away. After this. Was making some rumbling noise. Then that stopped and it would not engage into gear. Now after turning on it seems to be making bad cog noise . Has any one had experience of the same problem. Was it a easy fix. ? Boat is now in the canal midi carassone France. So just wondered also if any one knew of english speaking mechanics. That might be able to help or how much it might cost to stick on lo loader from there and take to poole we’re I can get someone trusted to work on the boat. Thanking for any kind advise that any one has

Sounds like accidental damage due to the rope leading to damaged seals and then water entering leg gear case . Have you considered calling your insurers to help with repairs ?
No I haven’t But worth a bash I suppose. Although every time I have tried to call on the insurers in the past they have slipped and dodged like a wet bar of soap ?

So its excluded ?
Are you able to let us know which insurance policy that is so we can all learn from it ?

Thats common if not universal in the insurance policies for boats over 23/25 years.

To the OP it may be the shear collet that seperates the upper and lower gearboxes. Penny part. They are meant to twist and break off to protect the gearbox gears from spalling and chipping in those scenarios and ground strikes.
