KAD 32 DP Strendrive Trim

I am expecting to feel a bit dumb on this but here goes anyway!

I have just acquired a new (to me) boat fitted with a 2005 KAD32 and Duoprop outdrive.

The leg is currently at maximum tilt in the 'Beach' setting and I can't lower it. What am I doing wrong? There is a Tilt switch on the front of the throttle lever and another rocker switch under the handle and whatever combination I use to lower the leg nothing seems to work. I do hear a click coming from the pump but no movement?

Leg issues are typically down to the relay. Works one way, not the other.

If you can hear clicking from the pump this would then however not suggest the relay as the pump is powered, however the click is more likely to be the relay.

All the relay does it apply + / - in one direction and - / + in the other so it goes up / down.

Keypart sell them ,but if you take it out ( it will just pull out of its socket) halfords will probably have one as well which maybe quicker.

If you look at the pin out you can also just bridge the contacts to prove this theory.

Finally the relay covers usually pop off. You will most likely find the contacts are dirty / have been arching. As a temp fix clean them off and try again, but do replace it as the worn contacts will not last long once damaged.

So this system has 2 relays ( mine might of had as well but I only recall one ... old age is creeping up on me) so just swap the relays over and see if it now goes down only!

I will look at swapping the relays when I'm next at the boat but in the meantime could it be simple user error and I am not operating it correctly. Is there an override button to take it from Trim to Beach or Trailer mode? As I say its new to me and was certain it was working correctly prior to delivery.

Also could battery voltage be an issue?

There is an overide button that needs to be pressed to move from the normal trim range to beach. It is usualy on the bottomb eft hand side of the throttle mounting console. It has to be operated at the same time as you use the trim rocker switch on the handle of the throttle . They are prone to failure however but are easily sourced and replaced . As other replied have indicated, check the up and down relays on each side of the trim pump. The retaining bolt for the relays are a bit fiddly to remove

If you've just bought the boat, can't you ask the previous owner how it should work?

What sc25sweden says. Plus I think it needs to be in neutral. Assuming single engine with black plastic controls.

The override button needs to be pressed at the same time as the up button/rocker to go from normal range to beach setting, but going from beach to normal only requires the down button/rocker to be pressed. The ignition also needs to be on, although the engine doesn't need to be running.

Mine was stuck on maximum down trim once and I tried the swapping of the relays advice given above, but nothing changed. In the end an electrictian traced it to another relay closer to the controls in the helm.

Ye gods, that looks overly complicated even compared to the trim system they fitted for a while to the petrol engined DPS drives in the late to mid 1990's. The DPS equipped boats I had ( 1999 models on) did not have a trim limiter, they assumed common sense by the operator. They had a switch on the shift lever, a fuse, 2 relays and a pump. The trim system on my DPH drive is similar, albeit with a little more unnecessary complication due to EVC intervention .

So it sounds like looking for a second override switch is unnecessary for the down movement. I'll check the battery voltage and if that's good we'll try switching the relays as suggested.

I know this is a different leg but in mine (Bravo) there is a limit switch on the leg itself which if it fails could prevent movement of the leg. Do they have that on the KAD?
