Hi - whilst changing the seal on my impeller housing - I thought I would change the alternator belt out as the original is worn.
My problem I have found is the top bolt - I removed the nut and washer but cannot shift the bolt is the housing for the bolt tapped and needs to be unscrewed or does it just tap out with a mallet?

Im assuming it follows earlier KAD form. Tap out. It should just slide but I forgot to grease mine and a little bit of corrosion normally from spilt raw water when checking baskets. ... I know, shouldnt be spilling raw water, but it happens for me at least when bleeding the airlock in the basket if the drives have been clear of the water, beaching etc.

I was intending to remove the alternator before taking the impeller housing off to protect it from salt water spilling all over it.

Hi Paul - I couldn't agree more as I have found in my 2yrs ownership.
I almost finished putting everything right from what the previous owners didn't do.
Although not a big issue - I just want everything to be right for the "what if" happens in the future

Top bolt seizes in timing case , needs heat to remove .
Down to poor servicing

Right - I have a question that may have asked done before - I have sprayed wd40 around the top bolt and still no luck - I don't fancy using heat as it is too close to my fuel lines and pre filter etc (although I use gas axes in my job and a big fan of this).
so My question is - if I undo the 2 other bolts that hold the alternator top bolt bracket - am I likely to break the seal of the timing cover and cause other problems ? -If I did this this would enable me to completely remove the alternator and attack it on a bench.

many thanks for the opinions so far
