That I was right staying at home this weekend.

Mull of Kintyre to Ardnamurchan Point.

24 hour forecast:
Wind: west or southwest 4 or 5, increasing 5 or 6, locally 7 or gale 8, for a time later today in north.
Weather: rain clearing this morning, then showers, heavy at times.
Visibility: moderate or good.
Sea State: rough or very rough.
Outlook for the following 24 hours:
Wind: southwest or west 5 or 6 increasing 6 to gale 8.
Weather: showers, then occasional rain becoming heavy during day before turning showery later in night
Visibility: moderate or good, turning poor at times in rain.
Sea State: rough or very rough.

Then again - it doesn't always do as they say....

Stop beating yourself up, it was definitely the right thing to do.

And if like me you do loads of chores around the house it will make it easier to justify a trip at later date. You can smugly remind Mrs S what a good house keeper and husband you are, so it must surely be OK to spend the next 3 or more weekends going out to play.

Now where did I leave that feather duster?

Good decision.

Even though Sheena has said that the rain has stopped, the poplar tree still has a nasty bend.

We're going for a run in the car today. Probably Oban - just to convince ourselves that we made the right decision.....

Anyway No1 daughter (the high maintenance one) wants oysters -- so a stop off at Loch Fyne is on the cards...

Fret not. It's blowing old boots up here.

I reckon it's about F6 gusting F7 now (Easter Ross) from the west so it's probably stronger on the West.. So far we've had sunshine with the odd shower.. but it'll be a lot wetter on the West..

Your never right to stay at home, just go below turn the weather off have a warm drink with a spot of scotch hospitality in it and inspect the back of the eyelids in peace and quite, the ear ache comes later but its worth it.

Just back.

Went for a run via Lochgilphead, Kilmelford to Oban.

Both Seun and Claymore bobbing about at their mooring. We saw one yacht out all day - coming out of Craobh - with a scrap of jib.

Contessa 26 (Piper - rings a bell from somewhere) tied up at Oban fish pier was horsing up and down. A bloke on board popped his head out of the companion way 'tween downpours. Looked dead pi**ed off so he did.

Enjoyed the oysters btw. Squeeze of lemon and a squirt of Tabasco. Bliss.

Going to walk up to the pub now. I know where I'd rather be though.

Piper's v famous as guy (can't remember his name) writes for Sailing Today.. a lot of single handed crusing articles... has North Sea Crossing and sailed all over Scotland (well around to be precise) and the UK generally..

I was down at Kilmelford last week-end to do some bits and pieces and maybe go for a bob around but weather pretty bad last week-end too..

Glad the Oysters were good
 
talking today with Fatipa .. we came to conclusion that most weather was irrelevant .. only important bit was whether it was raining or not!

First let me say the rescue of the Aussie lad in the liferaft for 7 days. was featured extensively on our TV.... so we have some idea of your local sailing conditions.. Ours are different. we just have 10/20 kts ,smooth seas , warm northerly breeze,we sail in shorts and "T" shirts etc etc... why do you put upwithall the crap...MOVE.. ok some of you can head our way, others we willstop at the front gate.
Yeah I know what you will say.. " what about Bass Strait, or Sydney / Hobart.. that is only once a year.. the rest of the time is PERFECT .. MOVE the lot of you

Piper was flying a 'PBO' burgee. Had all the goodies - vane steering etc.

We were the same last weekend too. Went to Largs for the day, stopped off at Gourock to watch the class One's battering into it as part of the Polaris Regatta.

Jimi might only stop sailing when it starts raining, but it was horizontal up here...

Did that last weekend too. New pair of trousers.

Claymore was sitting to her mooring fine. Was doing a bit of a nosey - as you do... Couple of boats alongside the pontoon.. but nothing else was happening. Put it this way Sheena and Ms High Maintenance wouldn't even get out the car.

mucking around with my new tacktick instruments.. checking up on the mooring etc and that Seun wasn't filling up with water or anything else untoward.. Tidying up a bit.. errr what else does one do when it's blowing a hooly, pissing down and you don't have crew.. ? ... oh I know knitting humungeous jumpers..

Its Monday morning 0940.. sun screaming through my window in beautiful Melbourne (OZ) not a cloud in the sky, slight SW breeze ,say 5/8 kts on the Bay .. washing about to go on line.. golf in the morning then down to do a bit of work on the Club rescue boat ( which I now drive .. )
