Just the two of us

Hi Lisa - Russ alias Boz (Cygnet of Lymington)
Did you encounter any Box Berths?
regards
Yes they are everywhere. But it seem to me in my very limited experience so far that everywhere has alongside too. Ypu may have to raft. The pilot books have all the phone mbers so you could call ahead to discuss. We did so at vvw schelde which was good as the hm was awaiting us with perfect berth.

If it's any consolation, the locals are often as clumsy at box moorings as you are likely to be. AliM has coverd the essentials and I would only add - don't be afraid of stopping at the entrance to sort yourself out. It is not necessary to moor in one continuous action. It lovely to have wifi again, now we are in Swinoujscie, even if I have to sit outside the loos for it.

If your boat hasn't got a rubbing strake, this is a very useful dodge for saving your topsides:

Rig a very heavy line, say 35mm so it's long enough to cover 3/4 of the the length of your boat, and arrange it so covers the topsides; it doesn't matter if it sags a bit and don't worry about the hull extremities. What you are trying to achive is in effect a rope rubbing strake. This will allow you to lean against the piles whilst you attach your mooring lines with no worries about scratches etc.

I found the suitable line for my boat in a marina skip:)

This sounded really interesting until I read it all. I may have misunderstood, but wouldn't your topsides need to absolutely vertical over much of its height and length to be at all effective, and isn't that rather rare? What did I miss?

adjust the line for max beam / tumblehome.
it would also help if the piles were staggered in / out all along the trot to give greater width availability too

Vamoose from Burnham is parked in a box in Goes at the moment, Mrs Vamoose (Sue) and I will spending the next 2 weeks or so loitering in the Veeresmeer, Oosterschelde or Gravelingmeer areas. If any Forumites come across us say hello. Alan

Thanks sailorman, penny dropped. But when I've tried similar with fenders they usually just pop up eventually. See the point here though.

We expect to be in Coljinsplaat the nxt two nights. Dutch friends coming to visit sundag a noon

It's good to hear news of the other forumites. Traigh is currently in Braassemermeer pond doing not much at all.
we met Ocean Lady in Middelburg and Olive May in Zandkrreksluis, but other than those we have seen very few Brits so far.
No need to worry much about box berths, just take it slowly and have warps and fenders handy. The Dutch like a bit of entertainment and are quick to give assistance.
