Took a lunchtime wander up Dumyat today - beautiful clear sunny day. Traprain Law to the East, Ben Lomond and the Arrochar Alps to the West, Stobinian/Ben More to NW. Thought about those lucky soansos sailing in the West.

So where's this wintry one?

Jings, it's nearly 4 and getting dark. Must go and put the cocoa on.

Spot on. That was quick, the milk's not even boiled over yet.

Oh yes it has.

Where next?

Hmm, I think you could be right, on closer examination

That was probably Sat/Sun 6/7 April 2002. Were you there then/ And did I do anyhing really daft (other than anchor too near the mouth of the burn)?

It must be the same day, we had to motor all the way from EL Tarbert in 80 + degrees, there's only been two days like that there in the last 50years. Shhh dont let on??

Yep. I think we should start more threads about how bad it is in Scotland - the usual stuff, incomprehensible but friendly locals, midges, big jaggy rocks, polar bears, gales, torrential rain, snow, dangerous currents, no marinas, jellybloodyfish, no jellied eels, etc etc

Definately...... no more of those picturesque snaps please.. people might get the impression that Scotland is good sailing... we need to post more about how wet we've got beating into safe havens in anything over a force 7 and nearly been sucked into oblivion by maelstroms, smashed to smithereens on North Rona and sunk by submarines.. Any other catastrophic experiences with tabloid sensationalist photos welcome...

And ...

... here's a line-squall off Rhum. F3->F8 and ice-cold blinding rain ... typical July weather.

...and this is the Sound of Mull (I think it was this way up anyway) on another fine July day. We'd spent the previous 24hrs hanging off the hook in winds gusting to 40kts

It's the old Artic Penguin.

Bit of a funny that. Some guy buys a perfectly normal barge type boat. Welds a bit at the front and back and puts on masts. The question is why?

No moorings here, but no shortage of places to anchor. Without checking the pilot, the nearest moorings are probably:

1 at the head of Loch Fyne, provided by the oyster farm/restaurant that was the site of the famous Brown/Prescott meeting

2 Creggans Inn on the east side, formerly owned by the late Sir Fitzroy Maclean, one-time liaison officer with the Yugoslav partisans and chum of Marshal Tito

3 Barmore Island, provided by the hotel - grub's a bit pricey for me, but apparently fantastic. The manager and staff are very helpful - the manager gave us a lift down to the bright lights of Tarbert. Probably didn't want the scruffs messing up the wedding reception.
