I scratched the back of my hand pulling the dingy on deck last night. Nothing significant, no bleeding etc, and I thought nothing of it at the time. This morning it was swollen and painful, but I thought I must have whacked it a bit harder than I originally thought.

By 17:30 tonight it was swollen, pustulant and I have a mild but increasing temperature. :(
So I have just booked a doctors appointment for tomorrow morning.

I have never considered that getting sea water in a scratch was likely to result in an infection. I think I must be falling appart!

Be ultra cautious James, Hepatitis awaits the unwary. In fact, have you thought of going to A&E for antibiotics?

Bad luck, an illusion of clear (untainted) water and a disinfectant salt content makes one think that it is clean.

We at Hoo are much more fortunate, the colour of our river and every tide reminds us of the s**t that our neighbours and others pump into it. I wouldn't want to get it into a cut or ingest it and I certainly wouldn't want to eat anything which swims in it, in the vicinity of our foreshore

A while ago, the idea of buying a lightship and saving a few quid with the sale of my house and enjoying a life afloat popped up. A picture of happiness with the boat moored alongside my unusual home, debt free, stress free, sun shine etc etc encouraged me.

I went for a stroll around the houseboats at Hoo on the way to survey the potential. That's where the dream ended. From what I saw of the plumbing arrangements, you literally 'dump' everything in the river. Obviously a macerator and bit of plastic plumbing is far too hard to sort out.

Dylan Winter did a good video about the upper Medway and what goes in it if anyone wants pictures.
