Just for MapisM

That's nothing. If it weren't that DB thought of a more elegant thread title (:p), he would have used the one I suggested: Something bound to make you moboers green with envy.
Which in hindsight, looking at these pics, would have been an appropriate title indeed.
Imho, anyone who doesn't think "chapeau" when looking at a vessel like this should be banned from a boating forum, regardless of which vessel he/she might prefer, sail or mobo.
Absolutely superb.

Just one question: in the 3rd pic the teak deck is clearly natural (or possibly just slightly oiled, surely not varnished anyway), while in the following pic it looks varnished - or is it just wet after washing? Can't tell for sure.
If you did varnish it, I'd be interested to hear the rationale behind it and your opinion on the result.
I always considered varnish on a teak deck a no-no, but what do I know...?

As an aside, I would have never dared suggesting this in a generic "Help locating a 20 meter live-aboard trawler / mobo" thread, but now that I see where you're coming from, you might well be brave enough to consider also this lady:

Not sure she would tick all your boxes (I'm skeptic about the 10kts cruise speed for instance), but you'll struggle to find another mobo which gets closer to the feeling you must experience onboard Drumbeat... :)

1. The third pic is correct, the deck is the usual dark colour when wet and dries to silver - no varnish! The wet one is washing years off dust off her just after purchase - very satisfying!
2. I've looked at a couple of Malahides ;)

Aha, fairenuff. I also prefer "silver dried" to anything else, and that's what I've got on my (also timber built btw) mobo.
Re. Malahides, it popped to my mind that we already discussed one - and also varnished decks - in an old thread, which I just managed to find:

Now, funnily enough, the boat mentioned in that 2010 thread was the same I just linked above after a quick google search....
...It looks like she has been waiting for you for quite some time!
Oh, and if you would need some crew for bringing her here from Puget Sound, just shout! :)

I am showing my age now, I was there at the Malahide yard when she was being built ! OMG !

I used to go into the yard after school and talk to the guys, they would give me off cuts of wood of various species that I used to practice making stuff with, I probably still have the odd thing made from an off cut that came from Sovereign !

BTW the chap that did the resto on her spent an absolute fortune, I mean like ridiculous amounts of money, at that price she is a bargain, if I had the time and berth I would buy her myself.

Blimey, I remember that post, I was so very nearly tempted ....even now I am having pangs !

LOL, luckily I didn't have that thread in mind last year, when I've been in Seattle.
I would have found the time to see her in flesh for sure, at risk of ending with two old wooden tubs, heaven forbid! :D
