In case anyone doubted it, he really doesn't know his geography, so I thought I might help a little /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

How about ...overcrowded, overpriced, impolite, rushed economic powerhouse of the UK? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

West Country - Tiddy Oggie Land - in the days when the Navy was divided into three separate bases plus the R N Air Sevice at Lee on Solent, Devonport ratings were known as 'Tiddy oggie waffling b'stards - ie. Tiddy Oggie (Cornish pastie) Land

OK Dave, now where is the Solent?

/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I liked that, very good, thanks /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

your getting there, even the sailing is rubbish.imagine sailing in a puddle every weekend(solent)??

Mkaes you wonder why so many people enjoy sailing there then? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The Solent, dear boy, is just above the EU channel
Can't miss it, loads of boats going nowhere, and a boat show going on, where no allowance has been made for visiting, er, boats /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
That makes a load of sense, not /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

That's always been a beef of mine. Why no visitors berths / moorings. They could always set up a moor and water taxi type thing. Not only SIBs guilty though.

Chris, don,t worry. You don,t need a boat to venture out into the solent.A pair of wellies would be suffice for say 5 nm,s offshore. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Only ever been once
Paid a fortune for the fuel to drive there
Paid to get in
Paid for almost everything once inside
Paid for accomodation
Paid for return fuel which is now way too expensive
Everything is pay, pay, pay

My beef is two fold
Wrong part of the country
Why charge admission when they also charge exhibitors ?

Only thing I got free, was a cuddly teddy called George, when I signed up to the RNLI, so I suppose that wasn't really free

Food is rank and over priced, nobody there seemed able to make a decent cup of tea or coffee, but they still wanted a fortune for each cup of dishwater (I run on full strength coffee, half a litre per hour consumption) regardless of the fact that it was mostly served in polystyrene cups

Shall I go on ?
What a con !!!

All too sad and too true. Not so bad fo me as I'm local but I certainly wouldn't travel far to go. I refuse to eat there for all your reasons and only go now if I can blag a ticket.

Seems to me the whole thing is aimed at those in your area, or those with so much money to spare that they can afford to book a look at a boat and therefore get free entry anyway, which proves the flaw in the system, it's a con.
For Kiltman to go he would have to fly (only reasonable way to do it) which isn't very green.
For Webfootman it's a hell of a long drive, not something I would want to do often.
For Sheepshagman again, not an easy drive
So all things considerred, it's aimed at the South coast boatie or those with loadsawonga

I understand that Sealine are providing free entry to some, but Richard can only offer a (non alcoholic) beverage to those from here (don't worry, he never reads what I write) which really makes up for the costs incurred, not.

Went to the Lowestoft boat show a couple of years back, not overly busy as they were just getting started, but at least we didn't have to pay to get in, and the food wasn't ridiculously over priced

Tickets can be cheaper ... there are several offers on including a Tesco deal ... £3.75 for a ticket in vouchers ... that'll do me!
I'm local so travelling there isn't expensive and there are some things we wish to go round and see - may even manage to buy a few discount bits that I need - although this is becoming trickier as it is often cheaper to purchase mail-order ....

Just keep an eye on the Guinness tent. I'm pretty sure everyone will pass through there at some stage. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Perhaps we should all wear the burgee round our necks /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

hi sixpence, kiltman here.we,ve got more sense than to come to the boreshow.why don,t you all come up here and we,ll show you how to party and be hospitable. After all,the clyde is the REAL home of world shipping/sailing.Don,t let these fahannies in the south tell you different. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My dear capnsquib, being from SheepshagLand, and having spent many a year in your fine KiltmanLand, I have settled in Webfootland (married to a WebfootWoman too) but have also spent a fair ammount of time in the Sarf and rest assured, there are nice and not so nice folk everywhere. When it comes to having a good time at any time of the year, WebfootLand does it for me, though I admit, you can't beat a KiltmanLand new year
Best place for the boat show though, would have to be somewhere central, but where could it go that has enough wet stuff beats me
