I've just bought a little Leisure 20 and need an outboard motor for it, longshaft, 5-7hp, 4 stroke. Can't really aford a new one so was wondering if anyone knows of any second hand ones for sale? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm based at CYC and can see this is the forum to be on for us locals, seems like a jolly place to be when not sailing.

I've noticed some of you boaters out in the bay such as Ishtar and Lizzy D (sorry to hear about the engine trouble).

Can't help with the engine (looking for a 2-3HP meself), but come and say hello if you are passing. Louise and I are out on Ishtar as much as possible at the moment.

I would probably settle for a 4 hp at a push, if I see a smaller one I will let you know.

Similarly if you are passing in the yard were just on the left, the little the yellow boat.

I'll keep my eye out. When are you launching?

Must get an outboard, really struggled to row out last night and failed to get there tonight. With two of us learning to sail, we need as many hours on the water as we can, and even if it's too bad to sail, there's loads of stuff to be done on the boat.

Anyway, there's usually a gang of us in the clubhouse on a Wed. we look a bit like the Addams family, but are quite friendly really. I'm the tall baldy glasses bloke. Some people call me loud.......

Hoping to launch in less than 2 weeks time. The weather has been really bad though and the rain is stopping us working on the boat.

The Adams Family? Bald? That can only mean Uncle Fester. I'd like to see the lightbulb in the mouth trick when if I meet you!

I know what you mean about the weather. Got down today, rowed out to the end of B pontoon where I normally pick Louise up. Took 10 mins hard work. Within 2 minutes the wind had blown us back into the start of the pontoon. Only just managed to get ashore, otherewise we were off for a spin around the bay in the tender.

Just got fed up and came home.

Congratulations on getting the new boat Matt. I wouldnt rule out a 2 stroke motor if a good one came up.They are usually a lot lighter than a 4 stroke but a bit louder and less fuel efficient.

Matt, nice to meet you last night. The boat looks fine and I can't wait to see her on the water. We did pop in for a pint and there were a few others around, but it was nearer 9 than 8 in the end. I left the sailing entirely to Louise - it's good practice for her, and she was enjoying it so much we stayed out later than intended.

Catch you soon.

Thanks Graham, I might get a 2 stroke as second hand 4 strokes seem to be hard to come by. I've been reading your blogs for several months now and you seem to have gotten about a bit.

No probs Martin we can meet up some other time. I had some dry weather today so we managed to get the keels and hull painted. Only a hundred more to do. I've taken the plunge and booked the boat in for launch next Saturday whether its ready or not! I prey for dry days next week.

Perhaps we can all do a bit of sailing in company some weekend, although I'm not sure how much my little 20ft boat will take with regards to sea state and wind strength, suppose I will find out with time...
