While checking boat this morning took a couple of photos just before low water but there was still a bit of ebb,
These boats would normally have at least a metre of water under keel even at MLWS.
Have never ever seen the river bed before, this is in front of my mooring.
There was a huge tidal surge today, negative of about 0.7 metre at LW, and positive of around 0.8 or so at HW. Presumably the ferocious Westerly wind around LW held the tide back and it all rebounded as the tide rose?
This was on the Harwich tide gauge, not sure where your pics were taken?
Pix taken just above Rochester Bridge on the River Medway.
Went down again at HW, and although tide was large, not that much above a normal springs..
Fortunately those winds passed through around low water the previous night, bit of minor damage to covers.
Moorings are exposed to a rather long reach from the west and if the wind is from that direction, pontoons do get a bit lively. The river is narrow and shallow and the surge level may have been a tad more.
What was noticeable was the number of oysters attached to parts of the piles not normally uncovered..
One of the photos reveals a perfectly good boat hook that somebody has previously lost and monster great tree stump.
Great pictures! There was another very low one on the 8th, some of the boats on the outside line at KingsFerry were sitting on the mud which never happens!
